Kathryn Bigelow

We just watched this film directed by Kathryn Bigelow, that just a few weeks ago was the winner of 6 oscars including best director. About 20 minutes into the film, I decided to continue watching more out of curiosity than anything else.  I missed a few minutes at one point but I watched it till the end.  This is really not what I usually like watching …. I mean who wants to ‘ relax’ watching a movie that looks like a prolonged news item from the region? Most definitely not me.  But I was intrigued by all I had read and heard about it.

My reaction at the end…. after some mintes, that is, is that I like it.  For me this movie is about the ‘feminine’ perspective of war in the sense that it is about, and shows people’s emotions – ok, let’s make that the american soldiers’ emotions –  but what I liked most was that this film doesn’t feel like a story but about real people, and how they live and cope with tough and risky experiences.  Now I don’t know if I’m reading too much into the story but for me this film is also about the people of Bagdad.  I know I wouldn’ t want to live in a city like that.  It’s not that they have much choice, I know.

Well done Kathryn Bigelow.  You deserve your Oscar. (Not that this means anything coming for unknown me but I want to know that I’ve said this.)

Feeling very tiny in the whole scheme of things but thankful for having been planted here, I close off this post.

Watch it (maybe most already did) and let me know…
